Originally from Victoria, Janis resides in North Vancouver
where she produces her artwork and lives with her family.
She graduated from the University of Victoria, with honours
in a Fine Arts Degree. Moving to Vancouver in 1982, Janis
worked in retail clothing for many years. This experience
reflects in her work, as the women she paints in her
canvases are similar to the dressing up of a customer and
creating a character. When she started to raise a family
Janis gave up retail and went into her art full-time. She has
participated in numerous solo and group shows and Janis'
artwork can be seen in public collections in the city. The
pictures are rich in colour and statement, often
depicting women in humorous and soulful
reflections. Her choice of medium are oil-pastel and
acrylic. Working mostly on canvases she sometimes
goes astray and creates one-of-a-kind painted objects and antiques.
